whiskey sour
Alcoholic punch containing whiskey, lemon juice, sugar and water.[1]
The basic recipe was first published in 1862,[2] but the cocktail itself dates back to the 18th century. The combination of lemon and alcohol was introduced to sailors to prevent scurvy on long sea voyages and the mixture became a popular drink even when ashore.[1]
Stampede: In May of 1877[3] in Deadwood, Noah Perkins' pet skunk, Cedric, was refusing to eat since leaving the Black Hills valley in which he lived. Dandy Jim Buckley suggested serving Cedric a whiskey sour to tone up his stomach.[3]
